Board of Directors Meeting Minutes
August 2, 2008
CALL TO ORDER:
The monthly meeting of the Fort Hood/Heart of Texas Cursillo was held on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2008, 9:08
am at the 58th Street Chapel, Fort Hood, Texas. In the absence of the President the meeting was led by
Shirley Nagle, Lay Director. Opening prayer was said by Deacon Fred Jones.
ATTENDANCE:
Board Members present: Deacon Fred Jones, Shirley Nagle, Nyrma Navarro, Cynthia Neve, Orie
Sanchez, and John Frost. Members absent: Linda Abrams, Jim DiSimoni, and Maria Sanchez
MINUTES:
Minutes from the July 12, 2008 Board Meeting were presented. John Frost made a motion that minutes
be accepted as submitted. Deacon Fred Jones seconded. No discussion. Motion carried.
OLD BUSINESS:
Supplies: See Financial Secretary report.
Picnic: John Frost reported that he needs help to complete the plans for the weekend. Place has not
been reserved yet. Cynthia Neve said that she would take care of it. Orie Sanchez said she would ask
her husband, Tino, to see if we could research about getting the dunking booth again. She also said that
she would get volunteers to help on the cake walk. She also asked John Frost if he could ask his
daughter, Julie, for an idea of doing a play that would demonstrate caring, suffering, and healing. Orie
Sanchez also suggested having extra prizes for those children that did not win anything. Shirley Nagle
said she would take care of that. Shirley also said to please keep receipt expenses so that we could be
reimbursed. Food for the picnic: Main meal will be a roasted pig, to include hot dogs. Everyone will
bring a side dish, 2 liter soda, and lawn chairs.
Orie Sanchez, Secretary, has a separate sheet where it lists what Board Members committed to bring and
help with. Shirley Nagle asked John Frost to put out an email now and a final one before the picnic.
MEMBER REPORTS:
President: Absent
Lay Director: Issues under new business.
Assistant Lay Director: Reported that the storage closet needs to be rearrange again. She offered some
suggestions to be passed on to Coordinator and Community Action for the closing. The cleaning
guidelines will be updated to reflect these suggestions. Orie Sanchez. She also gave us update
information about the mattresses, which will be brought up at Ultreya on Sunday, Aug. 3, 2008. She hopes
to give us more info as it develops. She also mentioned that the Fall Women’s Coordinator would like to
go to Elk on Aug. 21 to do an inventory.
Financial Secretary: Since nothing has changed, she did not provide a copy of the financial report.. She
also shared that the new bank statement had not arrived for her to change figures. She also reported
that she had bought some folders and needed some more. John Frost and Orie Sanchez volunteer to
buy more if they still had them.
Secretary: Will continue to work on updating the member’s roster. She read an email that she sent and
will continue to send to confirm present email addresses.
Outside Palanca Coordinator: Absent
Pre-Cursillo Coordinator: Absent
Post Cursillo Coordinator: John Frost stated that he needs speakers for the coming Ultreyas. He has not
had time to reserve Long Branch Park. See separate sheet to see the results of a lengthy discussion on
the picnic...
Spiritual Director: Deacon Fred Jones said he had good news for us. The new priest’s name is Father
Tyson Woods. He was very excited about it and looking forward to working with him. He reported that
we could see some new changes in the future He still has not heard anything from the Military Bishop
about the National Cursillo Dues..
NEW BUSINESS:
Donut Sunday: Shirley Nagle said it will be held on Sunday, September 14, 2008 at Holy Family Catholic
Church Social Hall. Since it falls on the same day of the picnic she felt that there would be enough
Copperas Cove people to help with this event.
Being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 11:30am. Next Board Meeting will be on Sept 6,
2008 at 2:00pm at 58th Street Chapel in Fort Hood, TX.
