Board of Directors Meeting
August 3, 2007
Minutes
I. Commencement Prayer by Deacon Fred: The board of directors meeting began with a prayer by
Deacon Fred Jones.
II. Attendance: Those in attendance were Linda Abrams, Shirley Nagle, Barb Krakowiak, John Frost,
Phyllis Gogue and Deacon Fred Jones. Absent from the meeting was Nyrma Navarro, Orie Sanchez and
Cynthia Neve. Guests in attendance was Marge Jones and Vera.
III. Old Business/Minutes:
a. Parish Representative: Barb has checked with some of the reps but not all of them. Phyllis
gave Barb the Cursillo brochure for distribution to local parishes. An announcement was placed in
the Holy Family bulletin.
b. Picnic: The board approved reimbursing John $30 for the pavilion rental and cancellation fee
for the annual picnic.
c. By-Laws: A motion was made by Shirley and seconded by Deacon Fred to approve the By-laws
as presented. Motion carried.
IV. Committee Reports:
a. Lay Director: Shirley asked the board to keep in mind possible locations for future Cursillo
weekends incase Elk Retreat Center closes down. Shirley will call Liz, owner of the retreat center,
and confirm the September clean-up date and get a list of major improvements that are needed.
b. Assistant Lay Director: Absent, no report.
c. Secretary: Absent, no report.
d. Financial Secretary: Absent, no report.
e. Pre-Cursillo Coordinator: Barb asked the board for help with the Women’s Cursillo send-off.
Linda said she will help. Phyllis will be out of town. Deacon Fred reminded Barb that Ed Szeman is
always there to provide the buttons.
f. Post-Cursillo Coordinator: John reported on the picnic in the Old Business section.
g. Outside Palanca Coordinator: The board supported the idea that Phyllis presented regarding
the community sending personalized Palanca to communities where they have lived.
h. Spiritual Director: Deacon Fred informed the board that Marie Powers has resigned as
Pastoral Administrator. Angela will take over during the interim period. The position is not expected
to be filled until Oct. 1. Deacon also reported that the Women’s team has started meeting on
Sundays at 4pm.
V. New Business:
a. Work Day – Sept. 1: See Lay Director report under Paragraph IV, Item “a”.
b. Donation: Phyllis presented the $250 check payable to Heart of Texas Cursillo to the board.
The money was donated by a staff member of the Greater Killeen Chamber of Commerce. Phyllis
requested the check be deposited in the H.O.T. checking account. Before the Women’s weekend,
Phyllis will purchase $150 worth of meat for the women and give the receipt and a Thank You letter
to the donor. Phyllis will do the same for the men with the remaining $100. Phyllis requested that
the donor’s name and place of business remain anonymous.
VI. Closing Prayer: Deacon closed the meeting with a prayer. The next board meeting will be
Wednesday, August 29 at 6:00 p.m. at 58th Street Chapel
