CURSILLO BOARD MINUTES
March 11, 2006
The meeting was called to order by Linda Abrams, President, at 11:15 AM on March 11, 2006 at the 58th
Street Chapel on Fort Hood. Deacon Jones opened with a prayer.
Those in attendance were:
Linda Abrams President
Deacon Fred Jones Spiritual Advisor
Shirley Nagle Lay Director
Allie Krebs Secretary
Cynthia Neve Financial Secretary
John Frost Post-Cursillo Coordinator
Phyllis Gogue Outside Palanca Coordinator
Mike Krakowiak, Pre-Cursillo Coordinator was absent.
Old Business:
First order of business was to fill the unexpired term of Assistant Lay Director. Deacon Jones moved to
appoint Nyrma Navarro who had expressed interest in the position. The motion was seconded by John
Frost. All were in favor.
Shirley Nagle reported that Liz Pechacek, owner/manager of the Good News Christian Center in Elk, TX
has offered her small house to the Deacon and Priest for all Women’s Cursillo weekends until such time
as it becomes unavailable.
Phyllis Gogue will create a document containing the standard operating procedure for cleaning the
retreat center after men’s and women’s weekends in order that those willing to help will know what
needs to be done and can expedite the process of closing the center at the conclusion of the men’s and
women’s weekends.
Nyrma Navarro and Cynthia Neve will purchase the kitchen floor mats for the retreat center. Funding was
approved at a previous meeting.
John Frost reported the possibilities of obtaining some sort of signal booster to facilitate receiving
phone service while on the Weekends. Prices ranged from $100 to boost the signal to $600-940 for items
that would accommodate a small business. Another option would be a satellite. It was recommended
that we look into a simple solution to amplify existing communication. Deacon Jones moved to authorize
raise up to $200 to come up with a solution. Phyllis Gogue seconded the motion. All were in favor.
An emergency plan is needed for Weekends, and the Coordinators should have a folder with that
information. Liz Pechacek makes herself available in that regard, but may not always be at home to
receive a call because of her work schedule. Phyllis Gogue will initiate the information plan for the
Emergency Folder.
The Financial Secretary had no report today. From donations she will purchase floor mats for the kitchen
for the Retreat Center. She will compile a report of donations made at the end of each Weekend.
The Secretary spoke about last month’s discussion as to whether we should impose a fee to be turned in
with each application. There was a good deal of discussion on this matter, and a motion was made by
Cynthia Neve not to impose a fee to prospective candidates. Deacon Jones seconded the motion. One
abstained, others were in favor.
The Post-Cursillo Coordinator reported on the web site information, roster information, and spoke about
the danger of forwarding e-mail chain letters because of privacy issues and spamming. The big bell that
is on the grounds of the retreat center is being repaired, but will most likely not be available for the
spring weekends.
Deacon Jones commented on the dire situation regarding the availability of priests on the installation. In
the very near future, four priests will be leaving the area. However, Fr. Minch has offered to say Team
Masses while he is here.
The Outside Palanca Coordinator spoke about Cursillo weekends being held across the country and
around the world, and suggested that a link to the National Cursillo page be available on the web site so
that individuals have access to those weekends in the event they choose to send personal palancas.
She sends and receives about 30 palanca letters.
New Business:
The Pre-Cursillo Coordinator was absent so there was no discussion about holding information meetings
at other local churches. The Board agreed to communicate about these meetings by e-mail as to the
scheduling.
A discussion was held about contacting possible coordinators for the Fall 2006 weekends. It was
suggested that Mike Krakowiak contact the men, and Shirley Nagle will contact the women, once the
slate of names is complete.
John Frost was selected to attend the Fort Hood Parish Council meetings currently being held on the
fourth Thursday of the month. Phyllis Gogue will be back-up. Linda Abrams is willing to attend the
meetings providing she does not have class at that hour. No financial information will be reported,
however reports of monthly activities to include attendance and purpose will be made available.
There was discussion about the SPARK. Discussion ensued about whether or not the SPARK, as it had
been in the past, was outdated, and about the possibility of having it published on the web site or sent
by e-mail, rather than having someone format the information and commit to postage costs, etc. Phyllis
Gogue agreed to compose an information letter to be sent out to Cursillistas to see if there is enough
interest to continue publishing the SPARK.
The YAHOO e-mail accounts were discussed. Linda Abrams is going to work with John Frost to
determine whether a consolidation of the existing three e-mail accounts can be accomplished.
The next Ultreya will be held on Sunday, April 2, 2006 at 2 PM.
The meeting was closed at 1:30 PM with a prayer by Deacon Fred Jones.
Respectfully submitted,
(For Allie Krebs, Secretary)
Shirley A. Nagle
Shirley Nagle, Lay Director
