Board of Directors Meeting
November 3, 2006
Minutes
I. Commencement Prayer by Deacon Fred: The board of directors meeting started at 7:06 p.m. with a
prayer by Deacon Fred Jones.
II. Attendance: Those in attendance were Shirley Nagle, Nyrma Navarro, Cynthia Neve, Mike and Barb
Krakowiak, John Frost, Phyllis Gogue and Deacon Fred Jones. Absent from the meeting were Allie Krebs
and Linda Abrams.
III. Old Business/Minutes:
a. October Minutes: Unavailable.
b. Coordinator Script: The board agreed to postpone discussions regarding the revision of the
Cursillo History until after the Men’s Fall Weekend.
c. Retreat Center Plumbing: Shirley Nagle informed the board that Jarrod Kimball, Robin and
Jeff Spencer’s son-in-law and a licensed plumber, installed a new kitchen faucet at the Retreat
Center. Shirley expressed her concern should there be an emergency, there is no access to water
on the outside of the building. The board suggested asking Jarrod if he could repair the faucet
outside the kitchen or next to the gate leading to the Stations of the Cross.
IV. New Business:
a. Men’s Fall Weekend: Team formation is going well; supplies are sufficient; there are seven
candidates to date; Shirley Nagle asked John Frost to obtain a list of candidate and team member
names to pass out to the community during Ulteya on Nov. 5; Clean-up leaders for the Closura will
be Cynthia Neve and Phyllis Gogue.
b. Printer: After realizing the printer that belongs to the Fort Hood Cursillo is low on ink and
prints extremely slow, Phyllis made a motion which was seconded by Mike, to purchase a printer at
a reasonable price and have it ready to give to the Men’s team. Motion carried.
c. Extra Palanca Gifts: Phyllis has been collecting excess Palanca gifts for several years
requested approval by the board to organize and distribute the Palanca gifts to the candidates. The
gifts would be identified as “Gifts from the Community.” The board approved the request.
d. Retreat Center Rules: During the Women’s Fall After-Action Meeting, it was noted that thumb
tacks were used to attach a handmade dining room wall decoration. The board agreed to use Velcro
in the future.
V. Committee Reports:
a. Lay Director: Shirley informed the board that the Cursillo weekend dates for 2007 have been
set as follows:
- Women’s 65th April 19-22
- Men’s 60th May 31 – June 2
- Women’s 66th Oct. 11 – 14
- Men’s 61st Nov. 8 – 11
b. Assistant Lay Director: Nyrma informed the board that there is sufficient supplies for the Men’
s Weekend but that we would need to purchase Pilgrim’s Guides by next year. Nyrma informed the
board that Phyllis has the crosses and has taken responsibility of preparing the necklaces for the
Cross Ceremony. There are approximately 75 crosses in stock.
c. Secretary: Allie was not present to give a report.
d. Financial Secretary: Cynthia distributed a copy of the Financial Report. Team Coordinators in
the future will be asked to reinforce the financial commitment asked of each team member. Cynthia
read two Thank You letters from candidates to the community for their prayers and hard work put
into the weekend.
e. Pre-Cursillo Coordinator: Mike informed the board that there are enough drivers who
volunteered to transport the candidates for the upcoming Men’s Weekend. Mike also stated that
the Send Off Team is set and ready.
f. Post-Cursillo Coordinator:
- Epiphany Party: John said that the Holy Family Social Hall has been reserved for the Epiphany
Party which is scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 7, 2007. The theme will be, “Three Kings.”
- Board Elections: John also reminded the board that the elections will be held during the
February Ultreya for the following board positions: Assistant Lay Director, Secretary and Financial
Secretary.
- December Ultreya: The December has been rescheduled for Sunday, Dec. 10 at 2 p.m.
g. Outside Palanca Coordinator: No report
h. Spiritual Director: Deacon Fred said that the financial support from Fort Hood has been
secured and he will pick up the checks. Shopping for the food has been coordinated with the
Chaplains office.
VI. The next board meeting will be Friday, Dec. 1. Place to be determined. The meeting ended in
prayer by Deacon Fred at 8:20 p.m.
