Board of Director Minutes
September 27, 2008

The meeting was called to order at 10:00 AM by Lay Director, Shirley Nagle.  Deacon Fred Jones opened
with prayer.

Directors attending:  Deacon Fred Jones, Jim DiSimoni, John Frost, Cynthia Neve and Shirley Nagle.

Directors absent:  Linda Abrams, Nyrma Navarro, Maria Sanchez and Orie Sanchez.

The Minutes from the last meeting were discussed and motion was made by Deacon Fred to accept
them.  Jim DiSimoni seconded the motion.  Motion carried.

Old Business:

There was further discussion on the issue of obtaining mattresses for the retreat center.  It seems the
original thought of getting mattresses for $50 - $75 didn’t come through, so we are actively searching
other avenues to obtain the mattresses.  Also under consideration is the delivery of new mattresses and
disposal of the old.  It was noted that Sam’s Club has single size mattresses for $99.  That, and other
outlets will be researched. Volunteers will be needed to transport new mattresses from the driveway to
the retreat center and up the stairs.  The driveway to the retreat center is not wide enough or sturdy
enough for a large truck to pass.  More details on this issue will follow.  To date, over $900 has been
donated for the gift of mattresses.

It was noted with sadness that the picnic had to be cancelled due to the dangers of Hurricane Ike that
were reported to head our way.  Linda Jaramillo had donated a painting for the “grand” door prize.  Since
it was not given due to the cancellation of the picnic, it will be offered in a raffle for the Epiphany party.
Details will follow.

The “Donut Social” held at Holy Family Church on September 14th was considered to be a success.
There were people available to answer questions and hand out brochures and applications.  Many
people attended and several Cursillistas were present to help keep the donut trays and drink cups full.
One application was submitted during the social.

Deacon Fred is working with the Fort Hood Chaplains to obtain the funds for the retreat center for the
women’s and men’s weekends.  The Chaplain inquired as to whether surrounding parishes were making
funds available as well.  On the Cursillo roster, John Frost will attempt to separate Cursillistas by parish
to show surrounding parish priests the participation of their congregation, in hopes they will submit a
donation to help us cover the costs incurred in each weekend, including groceries and the fee for the
Spiritual Director. Cynthia Neve was asked to come up with an estimate of weekend expenses and
contact surrounding priests from Holy Family, St Paul’s and St. Luke’s requesting their support of the
Cursillo movement.

The food donation list and the prayer wheel for the women’s weekend to be held October 23-26, 2008 will
be available at the Ultreya on October 5.

New Business:

Dates for the Spring 2009 weekends were discussed and were set as follows pending the availability of
the retreat center.  April 23-26 for women; and May 14-17 for the men.

The Outside Palanca Coordinator, Jim DiSimoni, reported that he is beginning to receive more requests
for palanca for upcoming weekends throughout the United States and abroad.

The Post Cursillo Coordinator, John Frost, reported that the speaker has been secured for the October
Ultreya.  There was some discussion about procuring Pilgrim’s Guide from a source in San Antonio.  This
will be investigated.  He will be securing a location for the Epiphany Party to be held on January 4, 2009.
He also informed the board that in order to secure the WAY OF THE CROSS sign that was donated by Tito
Rodriguez, his suggestion would be to purchase 4x4 treated wood posts and secure them in the ground
with concrete. The purchase would not exceed $60.  He would perform the labor.  Motion was made by
Deacon Fred to approve the $60 expenditure. Motion was seconded by Shirley Nagle.  Motion carried.

The Financial Secretary, Cynthia Neve, submitted her financial statement for September.  After
discussion, motion was made by Jim DiSimoni to accept the statement.  Deacon Fred seconded.  Motion
carried.

Deacon Fred reported that the chaplain situation remains the same at 58th Street Chapel.

The next meeting was set for 10 AM on Saturday, November 1st at 58th Street Chapel.

Respectfully Submitted,

Shirley Nagle, Lay Director
For Secretary Orie Sanchez
